In my parking spaceI am now the proud owner of a new set of wheels, a 1999 Ford Fiesta, for those who understand these things, it has a 1.25 16v Zetec engine, three doors and it is in super condition. 37000 miles on the clock (and about 1000 of them are from me already). Two previous owners, an old lady and a young lad, who drove it very little, but did install a rather nice radio which stayed after the transaction.
Posing outside a friends house.....It is interesting to note that, of my 4 siblings and the parents, only one, Little Big (or is that big little????) Sis, owns a car younger than this one.
Oh and one other thing, on a recent trip through Bulgaria, I saw a silver Austin Maestro, the first for absolutely years. What is interesting is at the exact moment i saw it, it was being overtaken by a Lada....

69900 kroner. With the current weak pound that's between £6500 and £7000. I think you can get a new one in England for that money!
Yes, very nice car - far better than our first purchase (NW is that red 85 mini still alive and kicking in Cumbria - it doesn't really deserve to be!) Car prices here are a similar level to Norway - we shelled out 6ooo€ on an 8 year old mondeo estate (albeit from a dealer) but it has since gone and gone. One of the other problems with nasty modern cars is there's so much to go wrong, in so many different ways. Long ago, in a land far away, an (already very old) Morris traveller had its fuel pump overhauled on the side of the road, by the owner, with nothing but a flat-bladed screwdriver, and some sandpaper to clean the contacts. It still got our father and me to the gig on time!
As regards the marvellous Austin Maestro, it made MSN's worst top 10 of the 80's. People still drive old boxy Ladas up here, because they're solid, simple, reliable, and can be fixed with a pickaxe!!!
BTW, the other reason old Volvos and Ladas are popular has to do with rear wheel drive on ice...
I remember the incident with the Morris fuel pump very well. AND there was lots of room in the Maestro even if it is disliked by most people.
However, We here in Cork certainly wish the little silver Fiesta many happy safe years on the road. Get it serviced regularly and keep it clean inside and out and it will serve you well. Today the internet is behaving, so I can reply leave comments. Thank goodness!
